Mike and Maureen RVing around the USA

Wed, July 22, Denali Wilderness Lodge to McKinley Wilderness Lodge

This was a fun, relaxing day. After a 2 ½ hour drive south on the Princess bus from the Denali Lodge to the McKinley Lodge Maureen and I went for a nice hike in the wilderness, relaxed in the lodge, then enjoyed a presentation by a local woman who is a mountain climbing guide here on Mt. Denali and also in the Antarctica. For the past 13 years this had been her job. She had a nice slide show of her last job guiding a group of four men up Mt. McKinley. They fly to the base camp at 7,000 feet and then climb one of three routes up to the summit at over 20,000 feet. The climb up takes at least two weeks up and two days down. As I mentioned on a previous post there is a very low success rate for those actually reaching the summit.
